Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
Then we drove through Desert Center to
Blythe, and then to Glamis. (The air
Temp. (30") at Blythe (1535) was 23.0°C.) We
reached Glamis at 1730. After eating supper,
we tried to night collect between the
two canals, but didn't see a thing. The
driving took place between 2000 and 2100.
We went to bed on Dune Crest at 2400.
We drove 194 miles today. Maximum temp.
today was 65°F., minimum temp. tonight
was 52°F. (11°C.).

We arose at 0800 and ate breakfast.
Quite a few Uma notata tracks were
visible on the sand, but nearly all of
them had been made by very young
animals. We looked for lizards from
1000 to 1245. The first Uma was seen
at 1005 (juvenal). At that time the air
temp. (30") was 18.0°C.; at 1cm it was 18.8°.
soil surface temp. was 20.0°C. This animal
was not captured. During the 2 3/4 hour
period we saw 24 animals and captured
8 of them. However, all but one of the
24 were juvenals. The other animal
appeared to be about 1/2 grown. Closeal
temp. was obtained and the animals were
released. No adults or their tracks were
seen. Helianthus tephrodes (formerly riviers)
was still in bloom in some areas.
