April 28
Palm Springs, Riverside Co., Calif.
At 0720 Frank Aubrey & I left UCR in the carry-all for this site. We reached Palm Springs at 0820. We looked for lizards at the end of Via Escuela from 0830 to 0840. The air temp. (30") at this time was only 17.5° C., so we returned to the vehicle. A N.W. wind, 15-20 mph., was blowing, and continued to blow all day. In fact, the velocity increased to about 25 mph. later in the day. We began looking for lizards again at 0945 until 1045. The first lizard was seen at 0955. At 1005 a Crotalus cerastes was seen. We ate lunch from then until 1120, when we began to look for lizards again.
