Apr. 11
Mojave Desert, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
Dinner at 1720. While there we found a
live adult Crotalus cerastes about 30
feet from the car. After eating, we
began night collecting back toward Dale
Dry Lake at 1830. All we found before
we reached Dale at 1940 were 2 DOR
Crotalus cerastes and 1 DOR Uma scoparia.
We camped near Dale in our usual
location at 1940, after driving 149 miles
today. Minimum temp. tonight was 54° F.
Maximum temp. today was 79° F. A S.W.
wind, 10-15 mph (gusto to 23), blew all night,
making our camp a rather unpleasant
place.
Apr. 12
I arose at 0605 because I was
sick, sick, sick of sand in the face.
The wind is still blowing as hard as
ever, but the clouds have disappeared. The
other 2 fellows didn't arise until 0720.
after breakfast, we decided to leave the
area + return later in the month.
We left the region at 0845. 18 miles
east of Dale Dry Lake we stopped to
look for lizards in a rocky area near
the road. Two Sauromalus obesus (a
pair) were captured here. No other lizards
were seen. We drove on to a lunch
stop 9 miles north of Desert Center. At
this stop we captured:
Diposaurus derelicis-3 (2ad Ø; 1im Ø; 2 im ♀)
