Mayhew 1960 Mar. 18 Mojave Desert, San Bernardino Co., Calif. got to get us to the station at Desert City. We bought enough gas there to get us to a Standard station at Halloran Wells (the Standard station at Stateline was out of gas). We were taking Frank back to Riverside, but he began to feel better by the time we reached Baker, so we turned north at that point & camped near Silurian Dry Lake at the old site of RenoVille. We drove 188 miles today. Minimum temp. tonight was 41°F. Frank was feeling pretty good by the time we went to bed. Mar. 19 We drove north this morning to look at a couple of sections along the Amargosa River. Then we drove N.E. toward Tecopa Pass, after which we drove north of the Kingston Range, then east to Mesquite Dry Lake. We had a difficult time getting out of Mesquite Dry Lake. The road disappeared, & we had to climb out of the valley along a stream bed. We eventually reached a powerline road. This was a good road, but had a locked gate on it. We had to back-track over 1/4 mile and drive around the gate. We gassed up at Halloran Wells again, then drove to Larapah Dry Lake to spend the night.
