Mayhew 1961 Journal 91. Oct. 12 Dale Dry Lake, San Bernardino Co., Calif. the entire trip (Uma scoparia). A few large immature Uma scoparia and Dipsozaurus dorsalis were captured. at 1230 we drove 2 miles east of Iron Age Mine Road to check the traps we have set near a gravel pit. Three immature Uma scoparia were taken from these traps, as well as a number of beetles. An adult ? Crotaphytus wislizeni was found in the act of eating an adult ? Uma scoparia. Both animals were collected. Then we checked the traps near the Iron Age Mine Road & gathered the soil sample. We marked & released 5 young animals, & measured 3 toe- clipped animals that were recaptured. We brought 25 Uma scoparia and 5 Dipsozaurus dorsalis back to the laboratory with us. The Dipsozaurus all were young animals. No adult Dipsozaurus were even seen. All the Uma scoparia that were brought back were adults or nearly adults. We were surprised to find the Uma in such fine shape this month. They were fat as butterballs, probably due to the rains the past few months. We reached UCR at 1700 after a trip of 217 miles.
