Sept. 26
Val Verde, Riverside Co., Calif.
I went out looking for juvinal
Sceloporus orcutti. I don't think
any broods were successful this
year because of the extreme aridity
(2.95 inches of rain from July 1, 1960 to June 30, 1966).
However, I wanted to check in the field
to be sure. I saw 2 adults and
2 large immatures, but no juvenals.
I left UCR at 1100 and returned at
1400, so I was out at a rather
poor time of the day. However, some
of the larger animals were out, so
small ones should have been, if any
were around. 3 adult Sceloporus
occidentalis and 9 adult Uta stansburiana
also were seen at this time. I was
able to catch 2 of the Sceloporus
occidentalis and 5 Uta stansburiana,
but no Sceloporus orcutti.
Sept. 27
Kenneth Evans & I left UCR at 0830
to look for juvinal Sceloporus orcutti.
We looked for lizards from 0845 to 1110.
During this time we saw 13 Sceloporus
orcutti, 1 Sceloporus occidentalis, and
numerous Uta stansburiana (at least
2 dozen). Only 2 juvinal Sceloporus
orcutti were seen, and no juvenals
of the other 2 species. We returned
to UCR at 1130.
