Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
looking for Phrynosoma m'calli,
from 0700 to 1120. We were sprinkled
on occasionally, & clouds were
quite thick all around, so the
temperatures of soil + air didn't
rise very rapidly. Therefore, P. m'calli
were active later than usual.
We returned to UCR at 1550 with
the following 32 animals of 8 species
(11 Uma notata marked & released):
Sceloporus magister - 1 (δ)
Dipsosaurus dorsalis - 4
Phrynosoma m'calli - 8 (4 juv., 4 ad.)
Uma notata - 12 (6 ad., 6 juv.)
Urosaurus gracilis - 4
Crotaphytus wislizeni - 1(♀)
Coleonyx variegatus-1 (δ)
Callisaurus draconoides -1 (δ)
We have now collected 15♂ Phrynosoma
m'calli (including DOR's seen) in 1961
on the 7 miles of road between
the Highline & Coachella Canals (121
live, 29 DOR). During the past 3
months (June, July & August) we have
seen DOR or captured live 114 P.
m'calli on the same stretch of
road (102 live, 12 DOR). I am
convinced they are not rare animals.
We drove 173 miles today, 519 miles
on the entire trip.
