Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
Calexico on highway 98. We weighed,
measured & toe-clipped 11 immature
Uma notata at the Glamis Store
after lunch, then released them in
the dunes as we drove through to
Calexico. I wanted to check some
roads in that area to see if they
might yield some Phrynosoma micelli.
Gravel trucks make collecting on
the Glamis-Brawly road rather
hazardous, so I am looking for a
place that has these animals, but
no gravel trucks. We drove over highway
98 from a point 11 miles [illegible] of
Calexico to 26 miles east, but the
terrain doesn't seem sandy enough
to support a large population of
P. micelli. None were seen, even though
we drove between 5 & 10 mph. Another
road also was checked. This is
south of the All-American Canal,
& is the remains of the old Yuma-
El Centro Highway. We drove 8 miles
of this road without seeing any
P. micelli either. Again, it appeared

country. Then we drove across the
Algodones Dunes on Highway 80.
Thunder showers could be seen all
