Mayhew 1960 Journal 14. Mar. 10 3 mi. N. W. of Palm Springs, Riverside Co., Calif. Frank Aubrey & I left UCR at 0830 in car # 241 ('58 Chev. station wagon) for this collecting site. We reached the location at 0930. We began looking for lizards immediately, and continued to look for them until 1245. After lunch (1245 to 1330), we collected our soil sample (1330 to 1345), then looked for lizards from 1345 to 1500. A fairly large number of Ura inornata are now active in this location. Numerous tracks were seen, as well as many animals. Most of them were active from 1000 to about 1230. An adult Crotalus cerastes was found on the collecting site today. The following animals were captured and returned to UCR today: Sceloporus magister - 1 (ad. ?) Callisaurus draconoides - 2 (ad. ?) Ura inornata - 17 (6 ad ?; 6 ad ?; 1 ? ?; 3 im. ?; 1 im. ?) Thus, 20 animals were retained, 4 of which will be sent to Alvin Earle at Boulder, Colo. We left the collecting area at 1505, and reached UCR at 1556, after driving total of 87 miles. The maximum temp. today was 29°C. (84°F). Mar. 14 Riverside area, Riverside Co., Calif. at 0945 Frank Aubrey, Walt Moberly & I drove out to look for Sceloporus orcutti & Sceloporus occidentalis.
