Frank Aubrey & I left UCR at 0830
in car # 241 ('58 Chev. station wagon) for
this collecting site. We reached the
location at 0930. We began looking
for lizards immediately, and continued
to look for them until 1245. After
lunch (1245 to 1330), we collected our soil
sample (1330 to 1345), then looked for
lizards from 1345 to 1500. A fairly
large number of Ura inornata are
now active in this location. Numerous
tracks were seen, as well as many
animals. Most of them were active
from 1000 to about 1230. An adult
Crotalus cerastes was found on the
collecting site today. The following animals
were captured and returned to UCR today:
Sceloporus magister - 1 (ad. ?)
Callisaurus draconoides - 2 (ad. ?)
Ura inornata - 17 (6 ad ?; 6 ad ?; 1 ? ?; 3 im. ?; 1 im. ?)
Thus, 20 animals were retained, 4 of which
will be sent to Alvin Earle at Boulder, Colo.
We left the collecting area at 1505,
and reached UCR at 1556, after driving
total of 87 miles. The maximum
temp. today was 29°C. (84°F).
