Aug. 14
Palm Springs area, Riverside Co., Calif.
Walt Moberly & I left UCR at 0525.
We looked for Uma inornata in Palm
Springs Panorama from 0705 to 0915.
Several animals (adults and young) were
captured. These were the first young
of the year that we have seen in 1961
for this species. Then we drove to
Palm Desert to look for Diposaurus
dorsalis. Cal & Ruth De Witt were
catching Dipsosaureus to send back
to Michigan the next day with
Bob Lesiewski at the same spot.
There were a great many lizards
at this location (south of the A + W
root beer stand). We looked for
Diposaurus from 0930 to 1200. The
weather was fairly cool that day,
so lizards were still active when
we left. We reached Dale Dry Lake
in time to look for Uma scoparia
from 1555 to 1745. One adult Uma
was taken from one of the traps. No
Chionactis in any of the traps this
time. Very few Uma were seen running
about this evening. Maximum temp.
today was 102° F. Minimum temp. tonight
was 68° F. At approximately 2300 it
began to rain, accompanied by thunder
and lightning. This continued until
