Mayhew 1961 Journal 63. Aug. 12 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif. along the road at 0600, with the voya starting somewhat later. Several juvenil Callisaurus draconoides were seen along the road. One juvenil & one adult Phrynosoma m'calli were seen DOR. We quit looking for lizards at 0945. By that time we had 12 live Phrynosoma m'calli. The 1st one was seen at 0700, the last one at 0820. Several of them were juveniles. The voya spent the rest of the day at the Highline Canal while I explored for new roads that might yield additional P. m'calli. The only likely prospect is Highway 98 east of Calexico. The last 8 miles before it joins Highway 80 look very good. No other paved roads could be found in sandy creosote brush scrub, which these animals seem to prefer. It takes about 30 min. to drive from Highway 98 to the Highline Canal near Glamis. I returned to the Highline and began looking for P. m'calli on the road at 1535 while I drove to the dunes for a soil sample. I really began looking for lizards at 1710 along the road, & quit at 1845. Only 1 P. m'calli was found this afternoon (at 1805). The air temp. (36") at 1845 was 38.2°C. The maximum temp. today was 42.5°C, the minimum tonight was 82°F. I drove 166 miles today
