59.
July 23 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
We arose at 0545 and began
to look for Phrynosoma m'calli
at 0620. Our car caught 2 before
we drove back to the big dune at
0730. We noosed several Uma
notata (some for Rudy Ruibal, some
for me), then began to patrol the
road again. We caught 4 more
Phrynosoma m'calli and picked up
1 that had been run over by a car
recently. Then we looked for
Dipsoaurus dorsalis, which were
not at all numerous this morning.
The sky was quite overcast (as
it had been yesterday morning), so
it was a bit cool for Dipsoaurus.
We quit looking for animals at 1115,
and left for home. We reached UCR
at 1500 after driving 529 miles
this weekend/(14 miles patrolling
the road this morning). In addition
to 1 Masticophis flagellum for Tony
Roth & several (number unknown) Uma
notata for Rudy Ruibal, we brought
home the following animals:
Phrynosoma m'calli - 27 (3 juvinal) + 1 dead
Dipsoaurus dorsalis - 7 (1 immature)
Uma notata - 6 (5?, 1♀)
Callisaurus draconoides - 4 (1 juvenile)
