Mayhew 1961 Journal 58. July 22 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif. blacktop at 1610. No Dipsozaurus were seen during the afternoon except for the one at 1400. The most numerous animals seen today were Phrynosoma m'calli. The boys in Bill Treedell's car caught 4 P. m'calli today (all in the morning). People in my car caught 7 this morning, & I caught 4 this afternoon. Thus, we caught 15 Phrynosoma m'calli today, which is the most we have ever caught in one day. I quit looking for reptiles at 1845 (sundown was 1845), after driving 108 miles between the two canals today (7 miles apart). The highest temperature today was 103° F. We were chased off the big dune by the wind tonight, so we night collected from there to our new campsite in a gravel pit near the 1/Highline Canal 10 miles away. We covered this distance from 2130 to 2210. We caught an adult Uuna notata on the pavement at 2130, & a juvenile Collonyx variegatus a few moments later. These were the only reptiles seen at this time. Minimum temp. tonight was 76° F.
