July 10 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
We left Walt in the dunes to try to catch young Uma while the rest of us patrolled the road some more, but neither Walt nor us were very successful. We caught only 1 Chionactis occipitalis & he caught 1 Uma notata.
We began night collecting at 2025 & quit at 2220. We saw only 3 Coleonyx variegatus (all ?) in spite of driving 34 miles. The minimum temp. tonight was 87°F. (1 adult Uma on road tonight).
July 11 We arose at 0500 (sunrise - 0450).
We patrolled the road for Phrynosoma m'celli from 0530 to 0730. We caught 3 of them during this period.
We began looking for Uma notata in the dunes at 0730. At this time, air temp. (30") was 33.2°C., pavement temp. was 38.0°C., air (1cm) was 34.2°C., soil surface temp. was 39.0°C., 10% overcast, SE wind 8-12 mph. We quit looking for Uma at 0945 because none were being seen. Those that had been seen this morning were about as spooky as I have ever seen them. We caught very few of those we saw. The flies were the worst I have ever seen in these dunes. They were terrible!!! After we collected
