Mayhew 1961 Journal 49. July 7 UCR, Riverside Co., Calif. This morning the following animals were taken from cages in the lab. and placed in outdoor cage #3: 10 Dipsozaurus dorsalis 5 Uma inornata 8 Uma notata 4 Uma scoparia This will permit us to use the indoor cages more readily for recording Phrynosoma m'calli body temps., which Dave Young will be doing for the next couple of weeks. We will be using Univ. of Michigan's Brown recorder for the job. July 10 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif. at 1220 Donna Hobbs, Warren Blakely, Walt Moberly & I left UCR for the dunes. We reached the Highline Canal at 1620. The temp. had been 118°F. at Brawley, but was only 43.0°C. (110°F.) when we left the canal to look for lizards at 1740 (we had been swimming in the meantime). Two Callisaurus dumosus were seen on the road at 1745 when soil temp. was 50.5°C., asphalt temp. was 49.5°C., & air temp.(30') was 43.0°C. Three Phrynosoma m'calli were collected between then and sundown (1850). At sundown the air temp. was still high (38.8°C.).
