Mayhew 1961 June 15 Dale Dry Lake, San Bernardino Co., Calif. Uma, 2 immature Uma, 1 dead Chionactis, 4 1 live Chionactis were taken from the same trap. We weighed, measured, toe- sclpped, & released all the young Uma scoparia & Diposaurus dorsalis that we caught today. Almost no adult Uma scoparia were seen today, nor were there many tracks of adult animals to be seen. June 16 We looked for lizards, beginning at 0630. No adult animals were seen by 0700, so we sat in the shade of a Dalea spinosa, waiting for the weather to warm up. [air temp.(30'') was 28.5°C. at 0700]. We began looking for lizards again at 0730 when weather conditions were: air (30'') temp. - 32.0°C.; air (1cm) temp. - 33.0°C.; soil surface temp. - 38.0°C. The first adult Uma scoparia was seen at 0745, sitting on the open sand in the sun. Relatively few adult Uma were seen this morning, and their tracks were nearly as scarce. I don't know what has become of the many animals that have been seen in this area in the past. Several of the adults that were caught were rather thin. We stopped looking for animals at 1100 and weighed, etc. the young animals we caught this morning. [air temp.(30'') 38.0°C.]
