Mayhew 1961 Journal 36. June 3 Northern Baja California, Mexico These animals were not nearly as abundant as I had expected. Even during this very dry year in Riverside we see as many in a given locality as we did near Rumorosa. We saw only 3 more adults of this species as we drove from Rumorosa to Mexicali. We turned south at Mexicali and headed for the Laguna Salada on Highway 5. We stopped at the sand dunes at Los Medanos (88 kilometers south of Mexicali) to look for Uma notata. It was getting rather late in the afternoon so only a very few Uma were seen. The wind was blowing fairly hard, so we couldn't tell from tracks in the sand the relative abundance of lizards. Then we drove further south to La Ventana (18 miles south of Los Medanos) where we camped in a week 3 miles to the west. We drove 151 miles today. [55 miles] June 4 We returned to Los Medanos this morning to look for Uma notata. We looked from 0800 to 0930. The air temp. (30") was 31.0 C when we began looking. Few animals of any kind were seen and almost as few tracks. Although this location looks reasonably lush
