Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
We arose at 0615 and ate breakfast.
Then we looked for lizards in the
dunes from 0755 to 1150. Lots of
Urosaurus graciosa were seen today.
It seemed that at least one was
seen on every perennial plant that
was large enough to shelter such
a lizard. After 1200 we drove along
the road for about 5 miles looking
for other species of lizards.
We found Callisaurus draconoides,
Diposaurus dorsalis, Phrynosoma m'calli,
Crotaphytus wislizeni, and Urosaurus
graciosa. After gathering our soil
sample in the dunes, we checked
the trap at the Coachella Canal.
(The trap remaining in the dunes had
been pulled out & left on the sand).
In it I found an adult Chionactis
occipitalis, a Crepidophorus tigris,
and about a dozen beetles. The
Chionactis was released. We left
the canal at 1600, reaching UCR at
2000. We drove 370 miles on the trip.
We caught a total of 137 animals of
9 species. Of this number, Chionactis
was released, as were 4+6 Uma notata
that we weighed, measured, & toe-clipped
(23 on 5/13 and 23 on 5/14). So, we
brought home the following:
