Mayhew 1961 Journal 29. May 11 Dale Dry Lake area, San Bernardino Co., Calif. The wind was blowing so hard it was impossible to keep a noose open to catch them. Several large adults were seen as well as young ones. all of them were in the sun in the lee of a bush - usually on the trailer of sand on the lee side. The first one was seen at 0920 when the air temp (30°) was 25.2°C. & the wind was still blowing 10-15 mph. from the N.W. I drove 27 miles on Varner Road. After the animals were released at Dale, I checked the 7 new traps near Iron Age Mine Road. & young Uma scoparia were trapped, along with numerous beetles & 4 scorpions. The lizards were toe-clipped measured, & released, as well as 2 that were noosed: # length (mm) sex 150 64 ♀ 151 91 ♀ trapped { 152 51 ♀ 153 53 ♀ 154 51 ♀ 155 52 ♀ I left Dale at 1355, reaching UCR at 1600, after a trip of 284 miles. The wind was still blowing near Garnet, so I didn't look at Varner Road on the way home.
