This morning at 0705 Frank Aubrey +
I left UCR in '60 Rambler station wagon)
for collecting site #IV. One Uta stansburiana
was captured near Morongo Valley route.
The first Uma seen at Dale was spotted
at 0950. We looked for animals from
0950 to 1100, During that time we saw
only 6 animals. One of these was captured,
and released. We were unable to capture any
of the others. After getting our soil samples
between 1100 and 1110, we again looked for
lizards. Between 1110 and 1130 we saw and
captured 1 Uma scoparia. At 1115 we saw
a young Crotalus cerastes partially covered
by sand at the base of a creosote bush.
The soil surface temp. at that time at the
animal's location was 31.4°C., the air
temp. (30") was 22.2°C. We ate lunch from
1130 to 1155, then looked for lizards from
1155 to 14:00. During this time we saw 19
Uma scoparia + caught 10. We also saw 2
juvenile Cellisaurus draconoides. Few Uma

is that many of these animals are still
