Mayhew 1960 Journal 10. Feb. 25 Riverside area, Riverside Co., Calif. two species of lizards. Many good areas with adequate access roads were found around Lakeview, Nuevo, Homeland, Romoland, Moreno, etc. We returned to UCR at 14:45 after a trip of 75 miles. Mar. 7 Date Dry Lake area, San Bernardino Co., Calif. This morning at 0705 Frank Aubrey + I left UCR in '60 Rambler station wagon) for collecting site #IV. One Uta stansburiana was captured near Morongo Valley route. The first Uma seen at Dale was spotted at 0950. We looked for animals from 0950 to 1100, During that time we saw only 6 animals. One of these was captured, and released. We were unable to capture any of the others. After getting our soil samples between 1100 and 1110, we again looked for lizards. Between 1110 and 1130 we saw and captured 1 Uma scoparia. At 1115 we saw a young Crotalus cerastes partially covered by sand at the base of a creosote bush. The soil surface temp. at that time at the animal's location was 31.4°C., the air temp. (30") was 22.2°C. We ate lunch from 1130 to 1155, then looked for lizards from 1155 to 14:00. During this time we saw 19 Uma scoparia + caught 10. We also saw 2 juvenile Cellisaurus draconoides. Few Uma became active much before noon. Our impression is that many of these animals are still
