May 6 Mojave Desert, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
wind blowing. It was so disagreeable
we slept inside the vehicles. Minimum
temp. tonight was 45° F.
May 7 The wind subsided this morning, so we
were able to find some reptiles. However,
it remained rather cool, so relatively few
were seen (no Sauromalus, for example).
One Gopherus agassizi that was marked
last year (#34) was found today. It now
measures 226 mm. (notch to notch on plastron).
One other tortoise was marked & a young
one was returned to the laboratory for
growth data. We collected the following
animals at this site:
Gopherus agassizi - 1
Callisaurus draconoides - 5
Cnemidophorus tigris - 4
Urosaurus gracilis - 1
Uta stansburiana - 4
Sceloporus magister - 3
Xantusia vigilia - 14
On the way home we collected 3 in a small stand of Joshua trees about
2 miles S. E. of Stoddard Well. We
reached UCR at 1930 after driving 361
miles on the entire trip. The following
animals were seen on the trip:
Crotaphytus collaris Xantusia vigilia
" wislizeni Sceloporus magister
Phrynosoma platyrrhina Uta scoparia
