ou destination after much effort
through the sandy stretches. We were
too late to find any reptiles active
in the rocks of the hills. We installed
12 more 5-gallon can lizard traps at
Dale (5 near the campsite, 7 near the
collecting site at Iron Age Mine Road).
These were installed at sundown.
May 6
It was rather cool this morning,
so lizards weren't active very early.
Several beetles, a couple of scorpions, +
spiders were taken from our traps.
Half a dozen beetles were taken from
each of the traps we set last
night - but no lizards. Large
numbers of lizards became active
during the morning. In fact, they
were so numerous, the class caught
the following:
Uma scoparia - 1+9
Diposaurus dorsalis -32
Crotaphytus widizeni -1
Crotalus cerastes - 3
That afternoon we drove into the
Pinto Mts. looking for animals. We caught
the only 2 Sauromalus obesus we saw (1
adult, 1 juv.). Then we proceeded to
Stoddard Valley by way of Old Woman
Springs + Lucerne Valley. We reached
camp after dark, + found a strong, cold
