April 15
Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
after lunch we looked at birds
on & around the lake. They were not
nearly as abundant as in the past,
after this we drove on toward Glamis,
collecting along the road as we drove.
We picked up 5 Phrynosoma micellii
between the Highline & Coachella Canals
and saw 4 dead ones on the road.
One car patrolled the road while the
rest ate, then the other cars began
night collecting also. At least one
car was on the road somewhere
between the Ogilby-Blythe road and
the Highline Canal from 1640 to 0035.
No animals were seen on the road
between 1700 and 1855. Then Celenyze
variegatus became quite common until
about 2200. Only a few were seen
after that time. We saw 2 dead on
the road and collected 46 live ones.
April 16
We arose at 0645 & ate breakfast. We
began looking for lizards (1/2 the class in
the dunes, the other 1/2 on the road in the
pick-up) at 0830 and continued until 1300.
After eating lunch in Glamis, we drove
toward Brawley, collecting 2 Dipsoauma
dorsalis, 1 Crotaphytus wistigeni, & 1 Phrynosoma
micelli along the way. We returned to
UCR via Warner's Hot Springs, reaching
