Mar. 28 Dale Dry Lake area, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
to check for soil moisture. No moisture
could be found down to 26 inches. It
began raining harder, + it appeared
that the storm would last most of
the day, so we headed for home at
0715. We reached UCR at 0945, after
driving 105 miles today (we drove 566
miles on the entire trip).
April 7 Dale Dry Lake area, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
Walt Mobley, Fritz Zebot + I left
UCR at 1730, planning to spend the
night near Palm Springs. However, the
wind was blowing so hard that we
decided to spend the night at Dale.
On the way we might collected on
the old highway between Garnet &
1000 Palms, then on Dillon Road.
One Arizona elegans was all we
saw.
April 8 We arose at 0645. We checked
our 2 traps for lizards. One trap
had most of the sand blown away
from its sides. However, 1 dead + 1 live
Citellus tereticaudus were in it. The dead
one was minus a head. The other trap
contained 3 juvenile Uma scoparia as
well as several beetles including one
Troglodoma costatus mayhewi, several
sand cricketa + Eleodes armatus. We
