to Palm Springs. We reached the collecting
site at 1340. After obtaining the soil
samples, we looked around for Uma
insignata. Two juvenals were seen, but
no immatures or adults. A few Uma
tracks were visible, but none of animals
of any large size. The weather was
quite cool while we were there (air temp.
[30°] of °C.) and a brisk breeze was
blowing. Consequently, we didn't really
expect to find any active reptiles.
Human tracks, as well as bird & small
mammal tracks were seen, so the reptiles
probably haven't been active in any
numbers since the last wind storm
in the area. We returned to UCR at
1515, after a trip of 156 miles.

Frank Aubrey & I left UCR at 1055
to look for Sceloporus orcutti and
Sceloporus occidentalis. We stopped first

Lakeview) to look for animals. We looked
from 1120 to 1220 without seeing a
trace of a lizard. The air temp.(30°) at
this time was 15.8°C. The sky began to
cloud over & a southerly breeze sprang up,
causing the temp. to drop. The remainder
of the afternoon was spent looking for
likely collecting areas for these
