Mayhew 1961 Journal 10. Mar. 6 UCR area, Riverside Co., Calif. this location. Occasionally we left the pick-up and climbed over rock piles without seeing a single lizard. Then we drove south to Alessandro ave., then east to Alessandro, finally N.E. to Pigeon Pass just east of Box Springs Mts. No lizards were seen on any of the rock piles or fence posts where we have captured numerous lizards in the past. We reached UCR again at 1600. No lizards were seen after 14:35. Weather conditions at 14:35, when we saw our last lizard, were as follows: air temp.(30") - 17.4°C. air temp.(1cm) - 19.2°C. soil surf. temp. - 30.2°C. 90% overcast 3-5mph wind from NW Mar. 7 I went up on the back of campus this afternoon at 14:00 to look for lizards, at this time the weather conditions were: air temp.(30") - 24.8°C. air temp.(1cm) - 27.6°C. soil surface temp. - 46.0°C. rock surface temp.-36.8°C. no overcast; 3-5mph breeze from NW. Many hillsides were searched with the aid of binoculars, but almost no lizards were seen this afternoon. The temperature is considerably higher than yesterday, but still few animals are out - these are mostly Uta stansburiana. The times at which lizards were seen,
