Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
Plantago sp. a small forage.
Some plants were in bloom even at
Squeaky Springs and Truckhaven!
However, we didn't stop to try to identify
them. We reached UCR at 1915 after
driving 170 miles today. The entire
trip covered 493 miles. Maximum temp.
today was 25°C. (77°F.). The trip was
made in #241 ('58 Chev. station wagon).
Feb. 23
Palm Springs area, Riverside Co., Calif.
Frank Aubry & I left UCR at 0845
in #325 ('59 Ford station wagon) to get
our monthly soil sample near Palm
Springs. We stopped along the old
highway between Garnet + 1000 Palms
to check on the wildflowers blooming
in that area. Some of the hillsides
already are yellow from blooming Baraba
canescens. In addition, these species
also were seen in bloom:
Plantago purshii Brassica sp.
Oenothera claviformis Cryptantha or
Atriplex villosa Plagiosbothys sp.
Dithyrea californica Erigonum sp.
Nama demissum a small forage
Larrea divricata a couple of grasses
after driving to UCR's station in
Deep Canyon to check progress on the
fence (no action at present), we returned
