Mayhew 1961 Journal 5, Feb. 4 Dale Dry Lake area, San Bernardino Co., Calif. beetle, and a small black beetle. Later a small weevil was captured near the car. The crickets are in B43, the Elegids in B25, 33. The weevil is in B50. We looked for lizards from 1140 to 1305, then from 1355 to 1445. At the time we started looking, air temp.(30") was 18°C.; at 1cm, 20.6°C. There were no clouds, but a wind 13-16mph. was blowing from the N.W. We caught 5 juvenile Una scoparia (all we saw). We saw no adults & no tracks of any. However, the wind blew all night long, so any earlier tracks would have been eliminated. We hiked to the hills south of Dale & found a nice stream bed (dry) & what appears to be good Saromelina area. Then we drove on to Deep Canyon Desert Research Area to camp for the night. We arrived at 1945 after driving 91 miles today. Minimum temp. tonight was 50°F. Max. temp. today - 22.0°C. Feb. 5 Palm Springs area, Riverside Co., Calif. We arose at 0800 and ate breakfast. Then we drove to Rio del Sol Road, which we covered slowly, looking for reptiles. None were seen on that road nor on Ramon Road into Palm Springs. We drove to Vista Chino to our usual collecting site, but there are getting to be a great many houses around it. Vista Chino has been extended eastward about 2 miles since our last trip here in October (1960). We drove out that until we reached the new subdivision that
