Feb. 3
Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
We looked for Uma notate from 1105 to 1330,
During that time we saw 6 adults, 2 immatures, 4
53 juvenals. We captured 1 adult alive (+1 dead),
2 immatures, and 23 juvenals. The dead one had
had its head eaten just a short time before
we found it, so we opened it up and preserved
it in formelin. It had very large fat bodies.
The maximum temp. today was 24.4°C, When
we left Glamis at 14:55 we collected along
the road all the way to the Highline Canal,
which we reached at 1600. Not one lizard was :
seen, but 19 Gambel quail were seen about 1/2 mile
east of the Cochella Canal. A strange weevil-
like beetle was caught on Ephedra californica
near the Cochella Canal & placed in B4. There
were gall-like substances on the branches that
appeared very similar to the beetle. The air
temp. on this portion of the trip ranged
from 24.4° to 24.0°C.
Dale Dry Lake area, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
We reached Dale at 21:20, after driving 196
miles today. We weighed & measured all the
immature & juvenil animals we caught. We
went to bed at 23:15 shortly after the wind
began to blow. The minimum temp. tonight was 48°F.
Feb. 4
We arose at 09:45 because the wind is still
blowing quite hard (13-16 mph), so it is quite
cool. We checked both lizard traps. No lizards
in either one. However, we collected 27 sand
crickets, about 55-60 Eleodes, an isopod-like
