Jan. 31
UCR campus, Riverside Co., Calif.
Walt Moberly + I went up onto the hills
at the south end of the campus to try to
locate the marks we had placed on the
rocks in 1958 to indicate the location of
Sceloporus orcutti captures. We did this
from 0930 to 1230, then from 1330 to 1630. We
found all but 21 of the marks today (68
found). The weather was rather cool and
overcast for much of the day. We saw 6 adult
and 3 juvenile Sceloporus orcutti, two Sceloporus
occidentalis adults and one Uta stansburiana
adult. Walt caught an adult Lichanura
melojuca on a rock.

Walt Moberly, Bill Truesdall, + I left
UCR at 1245 today for our monthly
collecting trip (1st since October because my
research grant has been spent). We stopped
at Lloyd Tevis' to pick up the Sexpex
hygrometer, then drove up Pines to Palma
Highway to section 19 to get some pictures
of Deep Canyon Station. The sky was overcast
all day so no harsh shadows were present.
Then we drove on to the Coachella Canal which
we reached at 1928. At this time the air temp.
(30') was 17.0°C. No wind was blowing but there
were numerous clouds in the sky. We might-
collected between the two canals and up to
the big dune, but saw no live animals. One
juvenile Phrynosoma oricelli was found near
