Mayhew 1961 Journal 1. Jan. 17 UCR campus, Riverside Co., Calif. Eugene Roller & I spent slightly over an hour on the hills at the S.E. side of the campus. We went out to check the 9 lizard traps he has set east of the bee-hives. Two Eunectes skiltonianus and 1 Uta stansburiana were removed from traps. Two Sceloporus orcutti adults and 3 Uta stansburiana adults were noted. There have been 16 days of temperatures above 70°F., so several species are active already. We were on the hill from approximately 1310 to about 1430. Jan. 18 Walt Moberly & I arrived on the same hillside at 1000. At this time there was a S.E. wind from 0 - 3 mph. blowing, the sky was 25 % overcast. Air temp. at 30" was 23.8°C., rock surface temp. (1cm) was 26.2°C., air temp. (1cm) was 29.6°C. One Sceloporus orcutti & 2 Uta stansburiana were seen on rocks when we arrived. Between then and 1210, when we stopped looking, we captured 4 juvenile Sceloporus orcutti & 1 adult, 1 adult Sceloporus occidentalis, & 1 adult Uta stansburiana. We looked over most of the rock piles at that end of the campus, but very few adult Sceloporus orcutti were seen (3). The air temp. at 30" when we quit was 27.2°C.
