Walt Moberly & I left UCR at 0500
to get our monthly sample at this
collecting site. We checked the trap at
Windy Point, but only a few beetles were
in it. Sunrise occurred at 0535. We
reached Vista Chino at 0600. It was
still quite cool, so we didn't begin to
look for animals until 0645. We
looked until 1215. The first Uma (a
hatchling) was seen at 0705; at that
time, weather conditions were:
air temp. (30") - 26.4°C.
" " (1cm) - 27.6°C.
soil temp. - 29.0°C.

Two hatchling Phrynosoma m'calli were
picked up on the sand some distance
apart (one at 0720, the other at 0810).
Some animals still were active when we
quit. At this time, weather conditions were:
air temp. (30") - 36.oo°C.
" " (1cm) - 41.5°C.
soil temp. - 64.0°C.
animals caught today were:
Uma inornata - 26
(3 hatchlings)
Diposaurus dorsalis - 8
Phrynosoma m'calli - 2 (both hatchlings)
Total - 36
We returned to UCR at 1410 after
driving 105 miles today.
