Sept. 9 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
in the dunes at this time (1815).
Both were on top of sand clumps
around the base of Ephedra californica.
We began night collecting at 1820
& continued to 2200 (46 miles).
Several Coleonyx variegatus and one
adult Crotalus cerastes were found on
the road. We drove 219 miles today.
Maximum temp. today was 105° F,
minimum temp. tonight was 82° F.
Sept. 10 We arose at 0650 & ate breakfast.
We began looking for lizards at 0755.
We collected lizards until 1030. The
humidity was so high, collecting was
miserable. We were continually bathing
in our own sweat. Several Urosaurus
graciosa + Uma notata were captured,
however. 2 more traps were set out
just north of the road at our
usual collecting site. We checked the
trap at Coachella Canal, but found only
6 scorpions and a large number of
beetles. We left the area & drove to
Glamis, where the owner of the store
agreed to check a rain gauge for me.
I mounted it in his back yard. Then
we drove north through Joshua Tree Nat'l. Monument. Smoke Tree Wash had
a flash flood go through as we crossed
it. It had been flowing a little before
