Mayhew 1960 Journal 59. Aug. 10 Dale Dry Lake, San Bernardino Co., Cal'f. We were able to capture fairly large numbers of Uma scoparia this morning. Walt & Kent drove the road looking for animals while the rest of us collected on foot. By noon we had an adequate sample, so we drove to Old Dale, then south to Joshua Tree Nat'l Monument to look for Sauromalus & Crotaphytus collaris. For some reason they were very scarce today. We caught 1 Sauromalus obesus + a couple Crotaphytus collaris. Then we drove through 29 Palms on our way to Granddaddy Dune. Palm Springs area, Riverside Co., Cal'f. We caught a few Uma incognata before lunch on Granddaddy Dune. Then we drove to our campsite near the powerlines east of Garnet. Aug. 11 We started looking for animals on Granddaddy Dune at 0630. A large number of Uma incognata were captured rather early, so we decided to drive to Vista Chino Road in Palm Springs to get Dipsoaaurus dorsalis. (Left D. Dune at 0840.) Relatively few Dipsoaaurus were seen the rest of the morning, however. We were quite surprised at the small number seen.
