July 23 - Palm Springs, Riverside Co., Calif. Of the high soil surface temperature (65.5°C). At this time we took a soil sample and then went back out to Windy Point to take our second soil sample. In twenty minutes of searching only one Uma was seen and it was very wary, running down a hole before it could be captured. The time was now 1230 and we gave up and returned to UCR. Several hatchling were seen today including 5 Uma inornata, 2 Colliasaurus diaconoides, and 1 Cemidophorus tiguis. Several others were seen but not identified. We arrived at UCR at 1330 after a trip of 101 miles. Total number of animals collected today was 20 including: 8 Dipsoaurus dosalis 8 Uma inornata 4 Colliasaurus diaconoides 1 Phrynosoma mcalli. Maximum temperature was 38°C.
