July 16 - 22 mi E. of 29 Palms, San
Bernardino Co., Calif.
We arose at 0500, [illegible] had
breakfast, and were in the field
by 0630. The first animal caught
was an adult ♂ Phrynosoma
platyphino⸱ at 0625 at which
time the air temperature was 33°C.
Animals were scarce and the
ones we did see were quite wary.
Walt Moberly + Bob Falkunding
patrolled the road while Bill
Leskiewski and I walked out
into the dunes. From the car
six species were collected but
[illegible] more in great quantities.
Collecting was very poor in
the field, almost nothing being
seen the first hour. The last
Uma scoparia was caught
at 0830 at which time the
air temperature was approximately
38°C. Dipsoseerus were still
active until around 1045- at
which time the air temperature
was between 42-45°C. We
left the area at 1100 and
headed for 29 Palms. The
air temperature was 48.5° C
at this time.
