22 mi E. of 29 Palms, S. Bdo. Co., Calif.
July 15 - Walter Molvry, Bob Kargiowaki,
Bob Fakunding, & I left
UCR at 1350 on our regular
monthly collecting trip to
29 Palms & Glamis. The
first animal caught was a
? Callisaurus draconoides at
1720 at which time the air
temperature was 42.8°C. I-
-This same area we also saw a
hatchling Phrynosoma platyrhino
and a hatchling Callisaurus
draconoides. We caught one
Callisaurus, 2 Dipasaurus, 4 Uma
scoparia, and 1 Cnemidophorus
tigris this day between 1720 & 1900.
Sun-down was at 1855 after which
we ate dinner and then drove out
towards Rice. At 2010 (air temperature
= 36.2°C) we saw a Crotalus cerastes
on the road. 30 Miles E. of
29 Palms two Coyotes ran
crossed the road and, later on,
a kit-fox also crossed the road
in front of us.
We made camp at the usual
spot at 2300. Minimum temp-
erature for the night was 29.5°C.
A reptile trap was set but yielded
nothing.
