As we left the area, we captured
19 Sceloporus graciosa & 1 Sceloporus

Mojave Desert, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
We spent a little time at the
Mojave River, 3 miles north of Cedar
Springs. The river was dry, but a
few isolated pools were still present.
It was nearly noon, so few animals
were active (air temp. -100°F.). Those
seen here were: Sceloporus occidentalis
Masticophis lateralis
Band-tailed Pigeons
Ash-throated Flycatcher
Hyla regilla
We captured 2 Sceloporus magister &
2 Xantusia vigilis as we passed through
Hesperia (1 Xantusia was released). We
stopped at 15 mile point to demonstrate
to the class that no reptiles would
be active at that time of the day.
After resting for a while in Lucerne
Valley, we drove slowly to Stoddard
Valley, looking for reptiles on the way.
