June 12 Colorado Desert, Riverside Co., Calif.
none have been seen this spring in area
where they have been numerous before.
Apparently last year's drought reduced
even the adult population. Almost no
young animals have been seen this year.
Animals caught today were:
Urosaurus graciosa - 1 (♀)
Diposaurus dorsalis - 6 (2 ♂, 4 ♀)
Uma inornata - 11 (9 ♂, 2 ♀)
Cnemidophorus tigris - 1 (♀)
Total 19
Diposaurus dorsalis are extremely
abundant this spring, particularly in
the Palm Springs area. We passed up
at least 50 this morning that we
saw and ignored. They are just about
everywhere.
When we returned to UCR we found
that 19 animals were dead and 1 was injured:
Uma notata - 3 (1 ♂, 2 ♀)
Uma scoparia - 7 (6 ♂, 1 ♀)
Coleonyx variegatus - 1 (♂)
Urosaurus graciosa - 1 (♀)
Diposaurus dorsalis - 7 (4 ♂, 3 ♀)
Total 19
One Diposaurus dorsalis was injured.
The 3 Uma notata + 1 Urosaurus graciosa
had to be thrown away because of this
condition, but the rest were in good
enough condition to be saved.
