Mayhew 1960 June 11 Journal 50. Colorado Desert, Riverside Co., Calif. One Coleonyx variegatus ran across the road in front of us, + 2 Crotalus crestes were seen on Dillon Road, but nothing was caught. One DOR arizona elegans + 1 DOR Phyllorhynchus decurtatus were picked up for Dave. We drove 152 miles today. Maximum temp. today was 101°F., minimum temp. tonight was 72°F. Animals caught today were: Callisaurus draconoides - 2 (1♂, 1♀) Uma scoparia - 21 (9♂, 12♀) Phrynosoma platyrhinos - 4 (3♂, 1♀) Diposaurus dorsalis - 22 (16♂, 6♀) Crotaphytus wixlizeni - 1 (♂) Cnemidophorus tigris - 1 (♀) Sauromalus obesus - 12 (9♂, 3♀) Uta strobilifera - 1 (♂) Crotaphytus collaris - 5 (1♂, 4♀) Total 69 June 12 We arose at 0600 (camped near power lines near Garnet) and ate breakfast. We looked for lizards along the old highway from 0715. Then we drove through 1000 Palms to Vista Chino Road in Palm Springs. We collected until 1025, then returned to UCR. We reached UCR at 1145, after driving 73 miles today (666 miles driven on the entire trip). Uma inornata seem to be very scarce around the Coachella Valley this spring. almost
