Mayhew 1959 Journal 46. May 8 Phelan area, Mojave Desert, San Bernardino Co., Calif. This morning at 0745 Frank Aubrey and I left UCR for the Mojave collecting area. We reached the collecting area at 0850. We collected 3 Sceloporus occidentalis or near Yucca Inn on highway 138 at approximately this time. We drove on to our selected site 5 miles west of Desert Springs, but couldn't find any animals for some time (until 0957). We finally left this area at 1230 and drove through Phelan, looking for a better collecting area. Before we left the area, we had collected 2 Uta stansburiana + 3 Sceloporus magister (?). We drove down roads slowly looking for lizards on Joshua trees, fence posts + power poles. During this period, we captured 2 Uta stansburiana and 8 Sceloporus occidentalis, for a total of 11 Sceloporus occidentalis (9 ?, 2 ?), 4 Uta stansburiana (2 ?, 2 ?), + 3 Sceloporus magister (all ?). We reached UCR at 1625 after a trip of 131 miles. The weather was slightly windy today, but otherwise was quite good for reptile activity. May 9 Cedar Springs area, San Bernardino Co., Calif. This morning at 0725 the field zoology class + I left for the Mojave River area. We reached the study area
