Colorado Desert, Riverside Co., Calif.
but we stopped at that point; it
crosses Dillon Road 2.3 miles north
of the junction of Highway 60 & Dillon
Road. 6.8 miles from the same
junction, we turned north on a road
up Berndt Canyon. This road is
paved for 3.2 miles, and ranges in
altitude from 750 ft. to 1640 ft. (paved
portion). It is in a deep canyon
& looks like an excellent area
for night collecting. 3.7 miles further
west we drove up a road labelled
Happy Valley. This road is paved
for 2 miles, and ranges in elevation
from 1260 ft. to 1700 ft. At this
road junction, it is 18 miles to Indio,
22 miles to Barstow. We followed
Dillon Road for another 16.6 miles,
then turned south on Mountain View
Road to reach our campsite within
view of "Granddaddy Dave". We
went to bed at 2330. The minimum
temp. tonight was 44° F. The altitude
reads 670 ft. at the campsite.
