Apr. 24 Mojave Desert, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
5 adult ?, 5 adult ♀, 4 immature ?;
Dipsocamum dorsalis - 2 adults and 4
immatures (sexes unknown). We returned
to the car at 1225. At this time, the
air temp. (30") was 32.6°C., air temp.(1m)
was 37.5°C., & soil surface temp. was
49.0°C. The relative humidity was 14%.
We drove through 29 Palms to the
Old Woman Springs Road near Yucca
Valley. We caught 1 Sceloporus
occidentalis, 1 Sceloporus magister,
& 1 Uta stansburiana here. Then we
drove through Joshua Tree Natl.
Monument (in which we had a flat
tire), through Box Canyon in the
Meecca Hills to Meecca. Here we
bought some food that we could
eat while driving. (White gas is
available at the Chevron station in
Meecca.) We drove down the east
side of the Salton Sea to Brawly,
arriving there at 1945. We night
collected from the eastern edge of
Brawley to the Gilby-Palo Verde Road
& back to our campsite in the
algodones Dunes. On this trip we
collected 14 Coleonyx variegatus (9 ♂
and 5 ♀) and released an additional ?.
We parked on top of the big dune
at 2230. The minimum temp. tonight was 65°F.
We saw 2 Crotalus cerastes recently hit by cars.
