difference of 22.6°C. We stopped looking
for lizards at 1410. Uma notata was
the only species seen today. A total
of 12 were caught, but no full grown
adults. Maximum temp. today was 82° F.
We left the campsite at 1430, then
drove in to Harpe's Well to check on
road conditions. There are some rather
deep ravines to cross, but we made
it all right with the 1958 Chevrolet
station wagon (#240) we were in. We
levelled a few spots in the road with
the car frame, though. After stopping
to eat at the Desert Dream Cafe, we
drove through Indio until we saw the
sign, La Quinta -6. We turned left
and followed Avenue 40, which is 6.2
miles long from its eastern end to Rio
del Sol Road. We followed a side road to
the north, 4.1 miles east of Rio del Sol
Road, which is 1.3 miles long. It also
looks good for night collecting. Then
we drove through 1000 Palms toward 1000
Palms Oasis. Just after the pavement
ends, there is a road beside the power
line that is paved. We followed this
east for 9 power poles to the road
to Pushawalla Canyon, and then beyond
to Dillon Road. The power line road
continues east beyond Dillon Road,
