Colorado Desert, Imperial Co., Calif.
Lesser nighthawk Verdin
Hummingbird (sp.?)
We watched in the large pond west
of the junction of the creeks for
muskrats, but failed to see any.
However, there was plenty of evidence
of muskrat activity in the area.
We returned to the cars at 1420.
The weather had been perfect until
about 1330, when the wind began
to blow from the west. By the time
we reached the cars, considerable
dust was blowing. We returned to
UCR by way of Highway 78, Warner
Hot Springs (where Ed Corey's car was
hit by a drunken Indian in a pick-up),
Highway 79 to Hemet, Highway 74 to
Ranoland, then Highway 395 to Riverside.
We reached UCR at 1920 after a
trip (in my car) of 493 miles. All told,
we saw 49 species of vertebrates on the trip.
