Mayhew 1959 Journal 28. Mar. 13 Dale Dry Lake, San Bernardino Co., Calif. Tree National Monument to Indio, then to Palm Desert where we mounted a newly lettered sign on the gate to Deep Canyon Desert Research Station. After talking a few minutes to Lloyd Travis at Rancho Mirage, we returned to UCR, arriving at 2040, after a trip of 305 miles. Mar. 14 UCR campus, Riverside Co., Calif. This morning the zoology 146 class walked over the eastern portion of the campus, looking primarily for birds on this trip. During the morning, the following species of birds were seen: House finch Crow Mockingbird Lesser goldfinch Bewick wren Chinese spotted dove Arizona hooded oriole Song sparrow Raven Sparrow hawk Brown towhee Copper hawk Common goldeneye(?) This is the first goldeneye I have seen in southern Calif. It was Morning dove Red-winged blackbird Calif. quail Audubon warbler Anna's hummingbird Red-shafted flicker Killdeer Sage sparrow Calif. thrasher Scrub jay Say phoebe Costa hummingbird
