Mayhew 1959 Journal 26. Mar. 6 5 mi. N.W. of 1000 Palms, Riverside Co., Calif. were captured. A young Dipposaurus loralis was seen at 1215. We stopped looking for animals at 1225. We then drove to our Deep Canyon Desert Research Station to pick up the sign on the gate to have it relettered. Someone had taken down the fence at the east end of the gate and driven around the gate. We measured several of the distances from highway 111 to our gate by the car's speedometer. These measurements were as follows: Highway 111 to corner of main road - 2.9 mi. Corner of main road t. road junction - 0.4 " " " " " to east turn - 0.3 " East turn to gate - 1.7 " We returned to UCR at 1800 after a trip of 177 miles. Mar. 10 1 mi. W. of Phelan, San Bernardino Co., Calif. Today Frank Aubrey & I left UCR at 1040 to try to get a monthly sample of Sceloporus magister. We reached this collecting site at 1140. The weather data at this time was as follows: air temp.(30") - 17°C. " " (1cm) - 20.8°C. soil surface temp. - 37.2°C. tree trunk " " - 30.0°C. wind, from north, at 3-5 mph.
