Mayhew 1959 25. Journal March 3 2 mi. S. of UCR campus, Riverside Co., Calif. This afternoon at 1245 Frank Aubrey + I started out to collect our monthly sample of Sceloporus orcutti at this location. The sky was clear with a very slight breeze blowing. At this time, the following temps. were recorded: air temp (30") - 27.5°C. .. .. (1cm) - 28.4°C. soil surface temp - 42.5°C. rock " " - 42°C. Numerous lizards were active at this time. In the time we were out (we stopped at 1435), we captured 12 specimens of 3 species (8 Sceloporus occidentalis, 3 Sceloporus orcutti, and 1 Uta stansburiana). A few others were seen but not captured. The temps. were approximately the same when we quit. This is the first day this year that we have seen lizards active in any numbers. Mar. 6 5 mi. N.W. of 1000 Palms, Riverside Co., Calif. This morning at 0810 Frank Aubrey + I left UCR for station III. We reached Grandaddy Dune at 0930. We took our monthly soil sample, then began looking for lizards. The first lizard seen this morning was at 1005 (a young Callisaurus draconoides). Several Uma insignata were uncovered, and eight
