Mayhew 1959 Feb. 20 Dale Dry Lake, San Bernardino G., Calif. This site is at the end of the paved road from 29 Palms. A metal stake is in the ground at the site, a hollow between two low dunes. This site is 22 miles E. of 29 Palms. (We decided we didn't need to go as far east as we originally thought.) We gathered our soil samples, then ate lunch, and finally began looking for Uma scoparia in learest at 1130. We stopped looking at 1315 because we had captured 8 specimens by this time (I was released because of its size), and we wanted to obtain samples at station III (1000 Palms). (The young one that was released was captured at 1200.) We returned to 29 Palms, then drove through Joshua Tree National Monument to Highway 60-70, where we turned west & drove through Indio to 1000 Palms. We parked east of "Granddaddy Dune" at 1530 and began immediately to look for Uma inornata. We quit looking at 1650, then obtained the necessary soil sample at station III. We reached UCR at 1835 after a trip of 271 miles. During this time we caught 2 of the largest Uma I have seen (1 Uma scoparia or + 1 Uma inornata o?).
