Mayhue 1959 Journal 18. Feb. 4 Colorado Desert, Riverside & Imperial Os., Calif. of 189 miles today. The road from Palo Verde to Glamis should be terrific for night collecting as soon as the last 30 miles is paved, since the road goes through sand dunes, creosote bush flats, barren rocky flats, ironwood filled washes, and rocky mountain canyons in the Palo Verde Mtns. The minimum temp. tonight is 44 °F. Feb. 5 We arose at 0700 (because gravel trucks awoke us at 0530), ate breakfast, then collected soil samples at our two stations in the Yuma Dunes. When we left the station wagon at 0830, the air temp. was 54 °F., there was no wind, and the relative humidity was 70%. Soil was collected at station I (top of dune) at 0845. The results were as follows: sample 1 - surface 16°C. (air temp.-12°C.)
